2010 Tour of the Little Calumet River East Branch

Back to Galleries Index...

A centerpiece of NWIPA’s efforts to make paddling more accessible in our region, The Little Calumet River East Branch enjoyed plenty of attention as dozens of paddlers enjoyed a day of paddling on this gem.

Beginning at the Portage Lakefront Park and Riverwalk, paddlers found that once past the bustle of the marinas and RT 421, a quiet, scenic and wooded waterway greeted them. There was plenty of signs of life in the form of birds, turtles, river animals, and plants and flowers.

Not the least benefit of the day: the camaraderie of your fellow paddlers.

Eventually, tree fall removal work by our Blueways committee will eventually create a 16 mile water trail from the Portage Lakefront, through Porter, Chesterton, and scenic NPS land all the way east to the Heron Rookery near the Porter/La Porte county line.
